Dioma uses a structured, competency-based approach to language learning. This article explains the core principles behind our curriculum and how the platform is designed to help you progress.
Our Learning Framework
CEFR-Aligned Curriculum
All Dioma courses are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), an internationally recognized standard for measuring language proficiency. This means:
Lessons are organized into clear proficiency levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2)
Content builds systematically on previous material
Your progress aligns with recognized language benchmarks
Skills are assessed across reading, writing, listening, and speaking
Why this matters: You can track your progress against a framework recognized by employers, universities, and testing organizations worldwide.
How Content Is Created
Expert-Designed + AI-Delivered
Dioma's curriculum is built by language educators and linguists, then delivered using AI technology. Here's how it works:
Human experts create:
Course structure and sequencing
Grammar explanations and rules
Correction logic and feedback frameworks
Assessment criteria
AI technology handles:
Personalized exercise generation
Real-time feedback delivery
Adaptive pacing based on your performance
Speaking and writing evaluation
This hybrid approach ensures pedagogical quality while allowing for individual customization. We will only launch a language/level that we feel good about, and over time, our curriculum experts will continue to refine grading criteria and content to improve the experience.
Focus Areas for Dioma:
1. Written Production
Long-form prompt exercises to practice writing. These prompts include open-ended prompts to exercise multiple skill areas and also focused prompts to practice specific grammar and fluency topics.
Short-form translation exercises that help you structure sentences and your thoughts in natural language.
2. Spoken Production
Monologue-style prompt exercises to practice speaking. These prompts include open-ended prompts to exercise multiple skill areas and also focused prompts to practice specific grammar and fluency topics.
Monologue-style exercises build language skills alongside fluency and confidence
Additional Critical Areas for Language Learning:
1. Reading Comprehension
Exposure to authentic texts and examples at your level
While not directly integrated into Dioma (yet), your personalized dashboard has expert-curated and level-appropriate recommendations for great content to consume.
2. Listening Comprehension
Audio content designed to train your ear for natural speech patterns
While not directly integrated into Dioma (yet), your personalized dashboard has expert-curated and level-appropriate recommendations for great content to consume.
Important: Progress requires both input (reading/listening) and output (speaking/writing). Passive study alone won't build fluency.
How Progress Is Measured
At Dioma, we don’t track streaks or rack up points, we track real skill growth. That means your progress might look slower than on gamified apps, but it’s grounded in something far more valuable: genuine language development. When you move forward here, you’re not just checking boxes, you’re building lasting fluency.
These skills include:
Grammar accuracy - correct application of linguistic rules
Expressive range - vocabulary and structures you can actively use
Fluency indicators - speed and confidence in production
You can view your progress across these areas in your learning dashboard.
