Dioma currently supports English as the interface language for learning Spanish, French, and Hebrew. All prompts, explanations, and feedback are delivered in English, regardless of your native language.
This is a deliberate decision. We chose to build three exceptionally high-quality curricula rather than offer superficial coverage across many language pairs. Each target language curriculum is designed with precise CEFR alignment, expert-vetted grammar progressions, and correction logic calibrated to common learner errors.
Replicating this quality across multiple base languages requires significant development and pedagogical validation; work we're committed to doing right, not quickly.
Why English only right now:
Supporting multiple base language pairs (such as Spanish → French or German → Hebrew) requires:
Curriculum translation and adaptation for each language pair, not just interface translation
Correction logic calibrated to different native language error patterns (a Spanish speaker learning French makes different mistakes than an English speaker learning French)
Quality control across exponentially more content combinations (3 target languages × 10 base languages = 30 distinct curricula to maintain)
We prioritized depth over breadth to ensure the learning experience is effective, not just available.
When this limitation matters most:
If English is not your native language, you may find:
Grammar explanations require translating concepts between your native language, English, and the target language
Correction feedback over-indexes on English-speaking error patterns, which may not match your actual errors
Cognitive load is higher because you're processing instructions in a non-native language (which could be a benefit if you are interested in polishing up your English)
If you're not a native English speaker:
Your English proficiency affects how you'll use Dioma, but it's not a hard requirement at every level.
If you're B1 or higher in your target language:
You can use Dioma primarily in your target language. Exercise prompts, speaking scenarios, and most content are delivered in the language you're learning. English is always an option for grammar explanations and instructions, but you also always have these available in the language you're learning.
If you're B2+ in English:
You'll benefit from detailed grammar explanations and can use English corrections to understand nuanced errors. This is particularly helpful at A2 and B1 in your target language, when you're still building foundational grammar and vocabulary.
If you're A2-B1 in English:
You can still use Dioma effectively, especially if you're B1+ in your target language. At higher levels (B2 and above), you'll spend more time working directly in the target language, and English explanations become less central to your learning.
If your English is below A2:
You may find the platform difficult to navigate. Grammar explanations and correction feedback will be harder to process, which increases cognitive load and reduces learning efficiency.
Bottom line: Strong English helps most at the early stages (A2-B1 target level) when grammar explanations matter most. As you advance, you operate more in your target language, and English proficiency becomes less critical.

Multi-base-language support is on our roadmap. We don't have a specific timeline, but adding new base languages is a priority once the English-based curricula are fully stable.
